Toronto St Clair-Old Weston GO Station | 9.13m | 1s | City of Toronto | Hatch

I'm sorry, you applied for (which means you got because you're the province) a permit in March, and you're daylighting mid-July? WHAT THE ABSOLUTE HOLY HELL?

Oh yeah, can't wait for Canadian HSR to definitely happen...

Uhh, PE........... they don't have the permit.

Now, Drain/Site service they could have had at the end of February............but as of July 11th, they have yet to cut the cheque.

For the record, that performance is abysmal all around.

But i don't know if I could go very far w/Drain Site service when none of the other permits are ready, (they are also in process only on Mechanical and plumbing).

Which leaves the question of ''why' they are in process...........

That I don't know.

Under-achievement to say the least, either way, but exactly whose I'm not as clear on.

To be fair as a provincial agency MX doesn’t technically need municipal permits, they just go through the process as an act of good faith. But yes moving slow.

I've heard other reasons for Mx getting permits from senior management. 'Second set of eyes'. They don't always trust their consultants/contractors, and recent projects would suggest this is not without reason.

I e-mailed the construction manager for the project last year and he said it was all going to be happening together with the Transportation Masterplan in the area: https://www.toronto.ca/community-pe...tions/infrastructure-projects/stclairwesttmp/. I suspect there's a bit more coordination, hence the slow pace.

I also think this might all be tied to the province's unwillingness to approve the zoning amendments for this area (https://ero.ontario.ca/notice/019-5872), which is extremely annoying. Everything seems stuck in this area because the province refuses to approve it. They even had to release an update on their review website earlier this year to say they are still considering it....3 years after it was submitted by the city. Absolutely abysmal for a province that supposedly is trying to get shit built. They could literally rubber stamp this and immediately unlock the whole area...but instead they're "considering it".

What's there to consider? No one wants to open any factories or warehouses in the area (and for good reason). It's too far from highways and too close to people's homes for industry. People, however, would live here. Businesses would open here in mixed-use developments. Just let the area develop organically and provide the right infrastructure like the GO station sooner rather than later.

I agree wholeheartedly, and sent an email to ask. However the email that is listed by the province on their website is out of service now and I got a bounce back, so I can't actually find out who to contact at the province to get clarity. Wish one of our newspapers would pick up on this BS by the province and investigate.

Didn't Premier Doug Ford gave out his cell phone number so people can contact him?

How about the Contact The Premier website at https://correspondence.premier.gov.on.ca/EN/feedback/default.aspx

Or the Get In Touch With Doug Ford, MPP website at https://fordmpp.ca/contact/

Probably will get a form answer from a "robot".

One wonders how ML could suddenly “discover” that the conventional GO trains can’t stop here and maintain schedule.

But the bigger question…. I don’t recall earlier versions of the station plans having the elevated three-car-length UP platform? Is this a new add?

And, if conventional GO isn’t stopping here, will the standard 12-car GO platform be cancelled? What purpose would it serve? Will the City see a cost reduction ?

Exactly. All known issues for over 10 years since the station was announced. Now the city will have to re-work designs, etc? Lol. Absolutely ridiculous that it is scheduled for 2031, which I doubt will be accomplished for a surface station with existing tracks announced in 2014.

I really hope they get the fare integration sorted out by then. Would be a downgrade to anyone using that service if they have to pay for any connections to it.
I pretty much exclusively use GO from Bloor now since I transfer to other trains almost every time.

Also, UP is a worse transfer to anything else at Union. And no bikes allowed, unless folded or boxed. ☹️

In years past the intention was to have both UP Express and Kitchener Line service stopping here:

I guess that was a short lived plan and never made it into the station design, and now the idea morphed into only UP.

This is not a new proposal. The 2021 Kitchener Rail Expansion Business Case already assumed that all Kitchener Line trains would operate express from Woodbine to Union, with the Union-Pearson line providing local service through that segment.

The business case assumes that "express" means non-stop, but I think it would make more sense for (some) Kitchener Line trains to stop at Mount Dennis and Dundas West to provide direct connections to the subway. Weston can be dropped from the Kitchener line since it doesn't have as much regional importance.

While the station platforms will remain the same length as designed, a portion of each platform will be constructed at a higher elevation to facilitate level boarding with the UPE fleet.
This suggests that what they already designed (I assume GO-sized platforms) will stay but with UP Express platforms added to it. What is unclear to me is how the platform length stays the same if the UPE platform will be added to it.

Is the expectation that it will cannibalize part of the GO platform? Normally, they add the UPE platform at the end in addition to the GO platform.
