Just now:
Might be a silly question, but how are cranes powered? Diesel-powered engine at the top of the crane?A few more. The four guys have worked on the crane pretty much non-stop all day through high heat, humidity and two big thunderstorms.

I am pretty confident in saying they are electrically powered.Might be a silly question, but how are cranes powered? Diesel-powered engine at the top of the crane?
I think most motors are electrical but the power sources can differ. In M city in Mississauga, some cranes are powered by sources/transformers attached to the grid while others are connected to diesel powered generators (on the ground.)Might be a silly question, but how are cranes powered? Diesel-powered engine at the top of the crane?
Judging from its location, I would think it is the crane for the main tower.Another potentially stupid question, but is this new crane the crane that will accompany the main tower? Or is this crane just for the podium, and a new crane will be installed at a later date when tower construction starts?
The crane is for SkyTower, which is the 95-storey one. They can't start Phase 3 until the Bay onramp demolition and Harbour Street realignment is complete -- apparently they hope for the onramp work to start by the end of the year, but Phase 3 itself is probably a couple of years away at least.Just to clarify: This development (and thread) is dealing with three towers:
Address 1 Yonge St, Toronto, Ontario, M5E 1E5
Category Condo, Hotel, Office, Retail, Institutional
Status Under Construction
Number of Buildings 3
Height 1,025 ft / 312.50 m, 865 ft / 263.60 m, 712 ft / 217.00 m
Storeys 95, 80, 65
Number of Units 2838
The one that is getting close to being 'topped off" is the 65 floor one. Is the next one (for which the crane has just been erected) the 95 or the 80? When do they expect/hope to start #3?
Used this pic to make a quick 5 min mockup. Probably could've spent another few minutes making Tower 3 look less crappyAnd one from Sunday afternoon:
