Toronto Pan Am Village in the West Don Lands | ?m | ?s | DundeeKilmer | KPMB

So I assume the tents are staging areas for the games...Then when the games are done we'll see construction on the southern-most lot (currently paved) of the site?

Are there plans for paved lot on the s/w corner of Front and Cherry? I've heard rumblings, but I can't quite remember.

Looks great. But why did they shut down all the roads again? Particularly Cherry? I was using that to get home each day and all of a sudden it's just closed for no reason. There is not construction equipment on it, they just closed it up. Seems crazy. Anyone know why? Who can I write too?
I worked on one of the competing PanAm village bids and I recall it is a security requirement and was planned all along. They want control of the village area well in advance of the games. As you can see in the photos, they are already setting up the tents for the games.

So save your ink, writing won't help.

Thanks guys - I'll make sure to post updates during the Pam Am games. Here are some shots I took from my walk yesterday:

1. that first sunset pic is amazing
2. the awnings over the storefronts (2nd last pic) should look very nice when they're extended!!
3. thank u for all the pics!!!

The neighbourhood is fascinating. It looks quite different from anything we've seen before. There are broad landscaped streets and a midrise built form that emphasizes the streets are the focus of the community. It is also seems like an enclave. None the major streets of the city like King or Queen pass through the heart of the community. Time will tell if that's good or bad.

It irritates me to no end that the mechanicals of Canary District are a desaturated mint green and the townhomes are clad in a rich lime green.

The streetscaping and midrise form of the area are nice, but the architecture is not particularly engaging, varied, or special.

The architecture of the condo buildings is really disappointing.

It's going to be amazing seeing the neighbourhood come alive during the games. I mean, suddenly 10,000 people moving into a community that has been completely empty for months will be a pretty good preview of what things will be like here in a few years. I hope we get to see some pictures of how it all looks from inside the fence.

I find it interesting that they placed those large planters in the centre of the square. A tacit acknowledgement that it's too barren for the athletes to enjoy?

I'll bet they disappear late summer, right after the Para PanAm Games.
