I called Waterfront Toronto 4 times to ask why all the grey and still have not gotten an answer. I spoke to a lot of people, who refereed me to a lot of other people but not a single person can tell me why or who is responsible. Even Pam McConnell seems to have no clue. Isn't it amazing that the people who are in charge of developing this area, have no clue why it is the way it is or if the grey buildings will continue in the future? I will keep calling Waterfront Toronto and Pam McConnell, to try to get some answers but it sure is hard to get simple information.
If all involved believe they made the right decisions, why won't anybody take responsibility for it? Anyway, these guys/gals haven't heard the last from me.

From the sounds of it you'd have to raise the issues with the developers/organizations instead.

I talked today with people at DundeeKilmer about it while on a tour of the site. Yes, they are aware that people are tired of the monotone brick. When a theme develops on UrbanToronto, developers do see it. (Individual complaints may not have such traction, but when there is general agreement on something, it get seriously considered.)
Meanwhile, the existing buildings do have slashes of colour here and there, and will become more colourful as the retailers move in. That said, the developers are firming up plans on the next set of buildings that will go in post-Games, and are looking at adding more colour with them.

Hopefully in a way that is visually and materially interesting and not just coloured spandrel.
Oh, they know we like red and buff coloured bricks too!

You'd think red brick would have been an obvious choice to play off the old Canary building. Anyways. I'll bite my tongue and hope for something more inspirational in this area. Maybe Ten Arquitectos can raise my heartbeat a bit

Went by on the GO Train yesterday.
Note that a berm has been built and now landscaped where the TEN Arquitectos building is proposed. It may go up for sale before the games have come and gone, but the landscaped berm will act as a gathering place for the Pan Am Village during the games.
Note that the wet side of Corktown Common looks done now. I wonder when the fences alongside the bike path will be removed…

Even the lampposts are grey? Good Lord... on the plus side, any little bit of colour that appears in this neighbourhood in the coming years will REALLY pop with this as the backdrop.

That's how I look at the Tim Horton's that's in the TCHC building at King & River. At first I was all "boo Tim Horton's!" but now i'm all "yay, Red!"
