I mean were they expecting the original rail corridor there to be buried as well? It sorta was there first I gather. Maybe CN/CP should be the ones complaining about the burying the nieghbourhoods springing up around it all these years. But I digress...

Yeah that kinda really sucks tbh, I get why they'd be upset.
...I get that it's brutal. And personally, I never like seeing mature foliage cleared for anything.

That said, if this ends up being better for the environment as a whole in the end, some strategic surgery likely needs to take place. Besides, from the renderings...who says this isn't going to be made to look least green and presentable when all said and done? I think @innsertnamehere indicated as much above.
