June 24: South-west corner. There were a number of OTG staff at the north-east corner - a container containing equipment was being placed at the inside front of the site, so the curb lane of Queen Street was closed - just in case the container hit the heritage facade and knocked anything down. So many OTG staff around, my apologies, not possible to get a decent photo.

July 2. Some interesting work going on at the south-west corner. Sections of concrete pump distribution piping were being lifted out of one of the shoring holes. Apparently, concrete is not poured into the hole from the top, but actually pumped down the piping directly to the bottom of the hole. The photo below shows one of the lengths (out of four) being lifted out of the hole.

One of four sections being lifted out. The first section to be removed is lying on its side between the worker and the mobile crane

North side of Queen Street - looks all nicely prepared for whatever is to come next.

Dreading the traffic on Spadina - buses replacing streetcars, traffic backed up from the Gardiner and now trucks hauling excavated material. It's going to be a mess. I keep repeating to myself that omelettes can't be made without breaking eggs, but /sigh

How many escalators are there? 3 or 4?
The interior render shows only the South West access, there are 5 levels of escalators/stairs in total from street level to platform level: 3 E-W to go down the shaft + 1 N-S to turn into the tunnel concourse level + 1 E-W inside the tunnel to get to platform level.
In the North East access, there is none. It's gonna be all high capacity elevators, 7 of them in total.

Passengers need to ride FIVE sets of escalators to get to platform level? Those elevators are going to be extremely popular.

We are paying for what is by some accounts the second most expensive subway in the history of humankind and getting bare-bone stations that look like the Ottawa LRT. Crazy.

Don’t even get me started with east harbour.

Sydney metro’s city and southwest or Grand Paris Express should be the bar to reach here. Give us grand and cavernous cathedrals of mass transportation if we are paying this much.
