Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

If we're going to complain about EVERYTHING Doug Ford does, you can pick it apart.
Fact is, everyone knows Ontario Place has major access issues.
Everyone knows that - whether it's a casino or a 21st Century Mixed-Use Neighbourhood - Ontario Place also needs revitalization.
Obviously these things are related.
Given these facts, the idea strikes me as something not worthy of being on the Top 20 list of Dumb Doug Ford ideas.
Well again, it's about optics. And at this second, the DRL is not going to help them. Especially if the condo ban remains in place.

Of course it's about optics - farbeit from me to argue there's nothing political about all this.

But to be fair: a subway to Ontario Place - an under served site with massive potential - is not a subway to Pickering.

Overall, i'm not disappointed with this plan. The best outcome is we get a DRL, and the other lines all face delays and get canceled by the next government.

The biggest hole in this that I see is the $17 billion in funding that isn't covered of the $28 billion cost.

"Overall, I really like this house. It's not our dream house but it's pretty great.
The biggest hole I see is that our salaries are only enough to cover 40% of the mortgage..."

From article at The Star:

The Ontario line would use smaller trains than TTC subways that could be driverless, and could run on elevated tracks on parts of the route, including crossing the Don River. The government said that although the trains would be smaller, the line would “have similar peak capacity” as the TTC’s existing Line 1 subway.

Like the Orange line in Montreal I suppose

Lower capacity "Ontario Line" can actually be justifiable if the destination is Ontario Place.

I'm not sure if that is the best "transit plan" for the city, transit users, and for taxpayers. However, if you looked at the Ontario Line in complete isolation, the lower-capacity trains can be used.

Interesting on what got left out in the great transit fantasy announcement........

On the SSE; they seem to have settled on 3-stop, going to McCowan............but no stop at Brimely/Eglinton. I would argue the case of that stop, including real private sector development potential is better than many. Hmmm

Also....the inclusion of Lawrence may prove interesting...........while I would have argued in favour of its inclusion due to the hospital, I am hearing loud rumours than the General is a goner in the new masterplan for hospitals in Scarborough.

That would free up a lot of land....... but where does the new hospital land?

Also of note, this would, should it become real, allow for downsizing that grossly too large bus terminal contemplated for STC.

****

Meanwhile............there is no 'future' extension of the Ontario line to Sheppard on that map, even by 2050!

There is about $5 billion from the Feds and $1 billion from the City from their existing scarborough subway funding package.

Re-posting from other thread.

So it appears to go to the Entertainment District then head south to Rail Deck Park, perhaps then there’d be a Bathurst/Front/Fleet St. stop, then Fort York/Princess Gate and then Ontario Place.

So Dufferin and Ossington busses and alike would have their routes extended to a stop on this line.
