an extension of the OL to both the north and west should not requiring much if any tunneling which will make it an excellent candidate for the next round of funding. It should be quite cheap to do an extension from Eglinton to Sheppard or even Steeles and Woodbine.

This is what disturbs me - Eglinton and Finch LRT's will be opening soon, and the OL is well under construction, so...what's next? Why isn't there any talk about next phases yet? We can't afford to pat ourselves on the back and chill - transit expansion needs to be continuous, without the massive gaps we've had in the past. At minimum, the next round of major LRT's should be going ahead immediately, as well as things that have been quietly whispered about such as OL extensions both north and west, and Sheppard extensions. This is very annoying.

Well, it's a fair question - but the list of things unfinished and still unpaid for is still fairly long, so cash flow for more transit is some ways away

- GO Expansion and electrification
- OL itself
- The other signature Ford projects - Richmond Hill, Scarborough Line 2, Crosstown West

What's next is probably out of scope for this thread, so I won't go on, other than to mumble
- GO Regional (Niagara, Kitchener, London, Cobourg)
- Sheppard Subway and/or Finch LRT extension - the point being we already need a whole additional seamless crosstown linkage up around the 401 or beyond
- Waterfront LRT

Maybe it's time to shift this discussion elsewhere

Agreed. These should be very straightforward extensions
  • OL north to Don Mills and Steeles
  • OL west to Kipling Station through Humber Bay shores and Mimico
  • Crosstown to Pearson
  • Finch LRT south to Pearson and east to Finch station
  • Sheppard east to the new McCowan station and west to Sheppard West station

I think it would make sense to start the planning process for an Ontario Line north extension in the next few years and have construction concurrent with the eventual Sheppard extension.

There are efficiencies to be had in expanding immediately after the initial line has been built (like we are doing for Crosstown West, or like Sydney is doing with their metro) rather than waiting 10 years to expand a transit line.

Re: North Extension, I feel like crossing over the 404 north of Seneca would be better for maintaining the feasibility of an elevated guideway. Don Mills North of Finch will be a NIMBY battleground. We would also be able to eventually extend the line into "Downtown" Markham if the line crosses east of the 404

For reference, this is the planned next phase transit projects:

Ontario Line is listed as going north to Richmond Hill transit hub then west probably along Highway 7 then going south to Pearson and to kipling station. Just lines on a map for now but it's not like the next phase is forgotten.

Where did you get this source? Having the Ontario line go to Richmond Hill would be amazing
