Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

FYI there is only one underground parking level in the building, so no, Metrolinx isn't taking it because the tunnel is going to be much, much deeper than the parking level. A century and a half ago this was the shore of Lake Ontario, the water table is high here (we've a sump pump under the garage to help keep it dry) so any tunnel boring will need to be through bedrock.
It daylights not far to the east - it's got to come out of bedrock somewhere. I'm not sure there's much particular constraint about it being bedrock - you certainly see subways, and even stations, in other cities well above bedrock, and under water bodies. I doubt the tunnel to Billy Bishop is covered by bedrock either (though it's certainly very shallow there).

Although you are correct that the tunnel has to come out of the bedrock at some point, I can assure you that the Billy Bishop Tunnel was bored in good old Georgian Bay Formation Shale.

OT - but it looks like there's people in that old aerial walkway to the Bay. Where would they go now that the Bay is closed. Surely no one is maintaining the escalators. Doors on the street looked locked when I walked past the other day, on Richmond.

Perhaps not, but once they pour the station box.....what stands in the way of backfill ?
Well, there's that pretty cool pop-up on the east side of Yonge at Queen. :)

Seriously though, wouldn't they still need a big access portal to get underground, long after the road deck could (otherwise) be reinstalled?

Now that old building at the SW corner of Yonge and Queen has been abandoned, perhaps they can just knock it down for access, and reinstate Queen Street faster. :)

Good question.... I guess it depends on what needs to be delivered, and whether it can come thru the tunnel (once the TBM has passed) or has to be lowered thru a hole in the roof.

The biggest thing that I can think of are escalator or elevator components, and I have no idea how those are handled.

HVAC and electrical switchgear, maybe.....?

I thought the TBMs were simply going to be moved through the already open excavation. Two TBMs I hope - I thought they learned their Line 2 single-TBM mistake.
