What is the Ontario Line Transit Project? The Ontario Line will bring nearly 16 kilometres of much-needed subway service to the City of Toronto, making it faster and easier for hundreds of thousands of people to get where they need to be each day. Initial plans for the line include 15 potential stations, including six interchange stations and 17 new connections to GO train lines and existing subway and streetcar lines.
What is happening?
To advance the Ontario Line project, Metrolinx will be evaluating the underground conditions of the area where the subway will be built. Work is done by using a small drill rig that drills into the ground, collecting soil and rock samples for further testing. This work must be done to determine the approach for the construction of this important project, and will support the creation of foundation designs and other structural plans.
 

The one thing that makes the Leslieville group sort of atypical for NIMBYs is that the demographic skews somewhat "younger." Much cooler graphics and branding than the typical North Toronto or Beaches NIMBY crusade.

Reminds me a lot of their successful fight against the Smart Centres and Gas plant proposals a decade ago.

seriously, these nimbyers will never be satisfied. I bet that even if they do bury they will find another thing to complain about and whine. next thing you know theyll complain about u/g vibrations or too much pedestrian traffic on the streets. If these people are so desperate for a quiet suburb feeling they are welcome to pack their bags and move up to york region. There are tons of people who would pay to live close to the RL corridor regardless of grade.

The demographics at the meeting were largely what you would have expected, white, old, and privileged.

But I am sure there is certainly a tinge of politicization going on with the Ontario Line, people who are opposing it or aspects of it because the proponent is Doug Ford and not the Liberals. That probably is driving some sections of the younger NIMBY support you mention.
 
Doug and his brother spent years telling everyone subways must be underground, because anything else is terrible. So then Doug decides to move a planned underground subway above ground and well, the results aren't entirely surprising.

IMO, Metrolinx also hasn't done a good job trying to sell the affected people on the above ground solution. Locals in the area aren't gonna care about cross-platform GO transfers at East Harbour. So I can't say I'm surprised there's so much pushback, whether or not that pushback is correct or not.
 
So much better than transfer city. Since we've decided Ford's should be in office it's all been clear sailing. No debates. No one upset. Ford Ford Ford. Subways subways subways.

Obviously the plan by Doug is very poorly thought out, but this is so hypocritical by Leslieville residents, who were among the loudest telling those in Scarborough to stick with the SRT.

Why don't we bury the Doug Ford government?

In all seriousness, this is one of the places subway is truly warranted. (Excluding reasons of transfers) Why don't we do it right, instead of building a line that will be at capacity in 20 years max?

And the motion has carried 23-1 (councillor Pasternak opposed).
 
Seems odd that a council seemingly so on board with the Ontario Line is moving forward with this motion. Perhaps they realized it was a bunch of horseshit after all.
Because the best possible plan would be the original RL plan (everything underground), plus RL North (to Sheppard, not just Eglinton), and maybe also an extension past Osgoode, all built in tandem, with the city paying nothing. Who doesn't want that?

Doug has only himself (and his brother) to blame for this rhetoric.
