Oh boy. $15,000,000 better be for design development only, otherwise we're absolutely doomed (recognizing, of course, DCN's inherent inaccuracies with quantitative information).

Maybe they can tear down 361 University, build a new courthouse here and rebuild the Armouries on their former spot.

Tear down a beautiful and striking mid-century institutional building for cheap, historic simulacra with an undefined use?

/no thanks.

I don't think Red October's pipedream is for a cheap historicist building. My pipedream is to take one of our best lost landmarks and rebuild it from blueprints and photographs down to getting the stone from the original source if possible.

Procurement to begin in Spring 2016 (RFQ)
http://www.infrastructureontario.ca/Templates/Project.aspx?id=2147492530&langtype=1033

An RFP recently closed for "Functional Program and Planning Studies for the New Toronto Courthouse"
http://www.merx.com/English/Supplie...nm&searchtype=&hcode=V+0xt30fFRoS9Wr+DeAsgg==

The RFP indicates that up to 8 courthouses may be relocated there (as opposed to the 5 previously stated).

I really hope this means the Superior Court of Justice operations currently using the office building at 393 University are relocated to the new building as well. Previously it seemed as though only Ontario Court courthouses were being relocated, but 393 University is awful. I'm afraid that if it's replacement is not included in this project, we may be stuck with 393 for many years to come.

If 8 courthouses (including 393, which is quite large in and of itself) with 117 court rooms are relocated, we should expect one heck of a tall courthouse.

Not that it is particularly likely, given the IO record with new courthouses, but they *really* should pay more attention to what GSA does with their courthouse program down south. Can't emphasize that enough - they actual took pride in their civic architecture, instead of making them look as cheap, soul-deadening as possible.

I haven't been in 393 in years, but even assuming everything Mr. Harrison says is true, it's still a vast improvement over the old courthouse at 145 Queen that it replaced.

While it's a provincial offences court, the Toronto East Courthouse on Markham Road is pretty darn ugly, especially when you consider that the central provincial offences court is Old City Hall.

Living in 89 Chestnut as a UofT student and having to look out the window to this dreadfully ugly parking lot for a whole year was torture. Lets get something built already..
