Say what you want about the quality here but these are adding some nice density to this part of the city.

Interesting to see the decorative piece being added back—not sure it's considered a cornice since it's not at the crown of the building.

Looked throng the Toronto heritage evaluation report for this building and it looks like the building actually went through quite a few renovations with the "cornice" being removed sometime before 1973. Can't believe this building is over 100 years old! (Source)

It's the best looking building in that last shot, which makes all the hate this gets kind of baffling to me.

I strongly disagree, but of course ones tastes in architecture can be very individual, much like music.

Social, as disappointing as its too-transparent balcony gimmicks are, has nothing on the true "examplars" of over-spandrelized ghastliness: YC, Daniels Waterfront, 365 Church, the Britt...

There is some added thickness to the outer sides of the slab where the columns are offset.
There's one column to the right in the pic that seems to be on standard thickness slab.

I know I’m in the minority here, and I know this project isn’t anything like the renders, but from a distance the black and gold/brown doesn’t look bad, especially in a sea of ice blue buildings.
