That area is so grim. This should do wonders for kickstarting its transformation into an attractive neighbourhood.
 
The Bathurst & Bloor intersection is the central point between two vibrant retail strips; Koreatown to the West and the Annex to the East. Markham St was also a nice side street with a variety of retail usages, and will be reintegrated when the Mirvish Village development gets completed.

The residential areas to the East, in the traditional Annex boundaries are pretty well known and revered. But I also find the areas to the West to be equally desirable as well. Palmerston (a few blocks west) is in my Top 10 list of residential streets in the city. From there it also flows further west towards Harbord Village, which is also a nice, low-key area.

This area is possibly my favourite in the city. I may have a bias having lived in the area at one point, but regardless. Especially when Mirvish Village was still open, the area was very vibrant with a lot of fun shops and street life.
