Taken 8 May. The database lists 57 units which seems very low.
The architectural plans list a total of 57 dwelling units on the second and third floors. The fourth through seventh floors house 256 more long term care beds in rooms that seem to have 8 each, I assume with privacy screens but not walls between them. We don't have a unit type in the database for that kind of accommodation.

I have to go back and look at these............ as I catch up belatedly on this thread.

The MLTC's current regulations require that rooms have a maximum of 2 in all new/renovated facilities.

I've had a closer look at the plans.

There are two types of rooms 'private' which means one resident, one bed, one bathroom, nothing shared and 'basic' which is the semi-private, two residents, in two beds, with a private screen between, sharing one bathroom inn one room/unit.

The Private:

You can see distinct entry doors for each room.

The basic (semi-private)

Here you can see one entrance, and 2 beds, sharing one bathroom off the entry way, The next pair of beds beside have a solid wall between and their own entry.

I always read this project as MAGA-lin. I'm so glad its happening, as this site has been long derelict, but boy, I wish it had a better name.
And no surface parking.
It's named after Ferdinand Magellan, the famous explorer who sought to circumnavigate the world.

This is also not the first cultural centre in Toronto that is named after a famous explorer. The Columbus Centre is at Dufferin and Lawrence and it is made for the Italian community as Columbus was originally from Italy, just like how Magellan was originally from Portugal.
