Toronto Lower Don Lands Redevelopment | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

The gates to new Cherry Street were WIDE OPEN this morning when I walked by.

I mean you literally could have driven in and driven down the dirt road and across the bridge if you wanted to.

So I decided to have a look around...

Were the gates open then? 😅
From the photo on the CP24 website, it appears that the crash happened at the Bascule Bridge /Ship Channel area so whether they were open or closed would not matter.

EDIT:

Confirmed:

A man is dead and another is in hospital after a vehicle crashed into Lake Ontario early on Saturday morning.

At around 3:30 a.m., Toronto police said in a news release that a vehicle with two male occupants was driving southbound on Cherry Street at a high rate of speed as it approached a bridge over Lake Ontario that was under construction.

The driver lost control of the vehicle, which left then left the roadway and drove into the water.

EDIT #2. I noticed today that there is a large wooden Hydro pole on Cherry (west side) about 30 metres north of the bridge which was obviously hit by something (recently) - I assume the car hit that first and kept on until it hit the bridge rail.

This is broken down into 3 sections as too hard to do as one

As shown above, Pouring of the missing section of the road is underway and could be fully pour by Dec 9, subject to weather and pave the following week.

They have also looks like they have pave part of the cycles path.

Open it up and let at least the cyclists use the sidewalks. :p
There are 2 sidewalks and the cycles could use the east one, but both needs concrete or asphalt at Commissioner to connect both to each other.

Maybe a guard rail and a few more street light poles at the bridge and some street/bridge lighting testing soon?
Doesn’t all late fall construction activity seemed to get pushed to a spring completion ie: June 20.

Did you read my comments above the photos???

Yes, you date it as 25 November.
I May dated Nov 25 as that when the photos were take, but refer my comments to the photos posted above mine that are the latest ones. I fixed the date location so not to confuse you and others

Maybe an obvious question but, are these lovely new bridges designed to withstand a collision with a lorry that has its bucket up while driving over it?

I believe this will almost certainly happen in the Portlands at some future time, given the amount of ongoing construction activity in and around there.

Great pix as always! Really looking forward to the planted lrt median as it will bring colour and look great in drone videos! Lol 😝
