This is the latest schedule, coming to WT Board tomorrow:

Waterfront Toronto is tracking the progress of the Port Lands Flood Protection (PLFP) program and is forecasting substantial completion in December 2024 (with minor park finishes to be completed Spring 2025).

Flood Protection is projected to be achieved by December 2024. The PLFP Contribution Agreement Amendment was executed in June 2023, increasing the budget to $1.27 B. Given the approved additional funding, the project is now forecasting to be completed on budget and staff continue to closely monitor both the schedule and budget.

The Don Greenway – a wetland that connects the new river to the Ship Channel, will be flooded this fall and we plan to capture visuals to raise awareness. The public will be able to see this from the Commissioners Bridge once it opens..

It is also anticipated that both Cherry Street North and Commissioners Street as well their respective bridges will be open to traffic by the end of the year and we plan on hosting a community celebration to mark the event

.In addition, we anticipate pulling both the West and North Plugs in early and late 2024 respectively which will begin to flood the riverbed to its intended natural state. The new mouth of the Don River will be between two to three metres deep depending on the location and the season.

Looking forward to some fun flooding visuals in the near future. Let's hope the site is "deluged" with them! (*groan*)

There is equivalent work going on on the east side of the bridge too. My theory is that they plan to complete the 'foundations' of Commissioners Street on both east and west sides of the Yellow Bridge plus those of the final section of New Cherry Street and then pave both Cherry and Commissioners as one project. Paving companies tend to be very busy in fall so I bet it is best to get them to "do everything at one time". Paving is a fairly fast process so one day (mid-November?) we will wake up to two newly paved streets - maybe!

Traffic Notice​

Lane Closures on Lake Shore Boulevard East and Don Roadway/Don Valley Parkway Ramp: October 16-23, 2023
To relocate natural gas infrastructure along Lake Shore Boulevard East, Enbridge Gas is closing one eastbound lane on Lake Shore Boulevard East between Cherry Street and Don Roadway. There will be intermittent closures of one westbound lane west of Cherry Street. Don Roadway will be reduced to one lane in each direction to and from the Don Valley Parkway (DVP). A single lane will remain open in all directions.

Additional lane closure details: from Thursday, October 19 at 6:00 a.m. until Sunday, October 22 at 6:00 p.m. Lake Shore Boulevard East will be reduced to one shared lane for both eastbound and westbound traffic. Two-way traffic will be maintained and controlled by flag persons and Paid Duty Officers. Please expect traffic delays.

What to expect:
  • Lake Shore Boulevard: Monday October 16 to Wednesday October 18: One lane will be open in each direction on Lake Shore Boulevard East. Closed lanes will be marked with traffic cones, flag persons and Paid Duty Officers
  • Lake Shore Boulevard: Thursday October 19 to Sunday October 22: Lake Shore Boulevard will be reduced to one shared lane with alternating direction of traffic controlled by flag persons, Paid Duty Officers and traffic cones
  • Lake Shore Boulevard: Monday October 16 to Monday October 23, there will be intermittent lane closures of one westbound lane west of Cherry Street.
  • Don Roadway-DVP Ramp: Monday October 16 to Sunday October 22: One lane in each direction will be open to access and exit the DVP to Lake Shore Boulevard
  • Traffic delays
  • Traffic cones, lane closures, flag persons and Paid Duty Officers will control and direct traffic

Summary​

This report recommends the following roadway openings and temporary closures as part of a larger package of openings and temporary closures required as construction of the Port Lands Flood Protection Project progresses toward completion, anticipated by the end of 2024:

- Dedication and opening of the fully completed, realigned portion of Cherry Street, including new cycling infrastructure and new bridge crossings over the Keating Channel from Lake Shore Boulevard East to Commissioners Street;

- The interim naming of the portion of the realigned Cherry Street between the Keating Channel and Commissioners Street to "New Cherry Street" and the naming of the portion between Lake Shore Boulevard and Keating Channel as "Cherry Street";

- Designation of the lands which contain the travelled lanes, trails, and sidewalks as public highways and to implement traffic and parking by-laws for each of the final opening of Cherry Street north of Commissioners Street and the interim opening of Commissioners Street, east of existing Cherry Street to Don Roadway (including Commissioners Street Bridge), also known as the "Interim Commissioners Street" and Villiers Street, from Cherry Street and a point 359 metres. Each designation its respective associated traffic and parking by-law amendments are to take effect in respect of has been constructed to the satisfaction of the City and accepted and commissioned by the City and after all property rights allowing its use as a public highway have been granted to the City by the relevant landowner and registered on title;

- Re-opening of Commissioners Street, between Cherry Street and Don Roadway, in an interim condition, in order to accommodate the on-going construction of the Port Lands Flood Protection Project;

- Temporary closure of existing Cherry Street from Lake Shore Boulevard East to Villiers Street to accommodate the planned demolition of the former lift bridge over the Keating Channel. A staff report will be submitted at a later date to close the subject section of existing Cherry Street permanently;

- Temporary closure of Villiers Street to all road users, between a point 144 metres east of Munition Street and Don Roadway, from November 30, 2023, to December 31, 2024, inclusive, to allow for the continued construction of the river valley north to the Keating Channel. A staff report will be submitted at a later date to close the subject section of Villiers Street permanently; and

- Temporary full closure of Villiers Street to all road users, between Don Roadway and Saulter Street South, from November 30, 2023, to December 31, 2024, inclusive, to accommodate construction staging operations.

^^^ That's great. Just read through the link, but still can't figure out when they're saying new Cherry street will be paved and opened. Did I miss it in there somewhere?
