Glass blocks were actually a 30s to 50s thing, moderne and mid-century. A lot of those in older buildings have been ripped out as they failed, so we don't associate them with that era as much as we should. My high school from the mid 50s had quite a few but Google Maps shows me they're all gone now.
 
...I don't think glass blocks should ever go out of style, IMO. I don't know how well they retain heat and such when it comes to energy efficiency, but they always seem to capture light and shadow in interesting ways no matter how dull and lifeless the building is they've been installed on.
 
September 26 - And more glass this morning. After the glazing related photos, a couple of comparison photos, the West Mountain, which has been topped off with all formwork removed, and the East Mountain, which is still under construction. Last photo is of the vertical support bars from the West Mountain construction being taken away from the site this morning.
