I'm very curious to see how the glass cladding holds up over time to the elements, and the general grime that builds. I imagine it will still look very good, even in places that might be a bit soiled.

April 23 - Building Envelope Update:

Overall, progress on installation of the cladding has been fairly slow to date. Today however, there were cladding installation crews working concurrently in three different areas of the building, along with a fourth worker installing windows in the east side heritage building, and (at least one) other person working on the set up for reinstallation of the heritage wall sections which had been panelized and stored off-site.

Due to the number of photos, this update has been split into two posts - first the activities along the King Street facade and the heritage building window installation, the second being installation of a cladding section at the south end of the building.

Installation of cladding section in the south passageway from the courtyard towards Wellington Street. This was a slow process, as it appeared that the section needed some final assembly prior to being hoisted into place. The hoisting process itself took some time. Due to the overhang nature of where it was being installed, the yellow mobile crane could not lift it all the way up into position - once the section was most of the way up, it could not be raised any further by the crane, and the workers had to attache the chain and pulley hoist that was suspended from the unit above, and chain lift the section the rest of the way up.

This building will be a very good candidate for the Lego® Architecture Series when it's complete, although a very, very, very large and expensive set (assuming one clear plastic piece per glass block above.)

It will be a hellish build trying to align all the likely 1x1 pieces.

Forget Himeji - the rumour mill is that we will be getting Schloss Neuschwanstein this year.

ohmigosh I really want the Himeji Castle set!!!

I was really lucky and Santa brought me the Taj Mahal set last Christmas. Most fun gift I've had since childhood!

On the King Street frontage what appears to the the cladding for the third floor balcony railing is now being installed - photos below. In the back of the building, facing Wellington Street - not sure if the cladding has reached the upper level of the second floor - or it is actually the third floor that now has cladding in place. The final photo is of the east heritage building window installation - a lot of progress over the past day or so.

Odd that they’re waiting for the new windows to go in before restoring the brick. Wouldn’t it be easier than having to cover up the windows and go around window frames? Or are they not planning on restoring the brick?
