Yes the headline is misleading, the article says it will be "deferred".
Let's be honest here though - a project that was conceived in 2014, was supposed to be done in 2021, that hasn't even started actual construction at the end of 2024, and now "deferred pending additional funding"... I don't think it gets built ever.
 
How does 1.7B not get you 5 surface transit stations ....
 
Odd that they would choose to drop King-Liberty over any other station (except maybe East Harbour) given the existing density and traffic chaos in Liberty Village - compared to other station areas which have yet to be developed. Maybe they're thinking that Exhibition Station/Ontario Line will be close enough to provide some relief to that area.

I think theyre calculating the Province sees King-Liberty as so essential to their expansion plans that they would fund it themselves. Otherwise the city prioritizing St Clair/Old Weston would make no sense considering the low ridership being projected there.
 
Has the King-Liberty north exit on Sudbury St official design & location been officially finalized yet?

I've asked Metrolinx a few times, including 11Dec2024, & they've kept saying no.

Neighbours are posting on FB grps that they've seen what they think are bridge pilings / holes being boored / drilled as recently as this past week, and that the exit on Sudbury is under construction already.

I thought they were doing "early works" only still(?), allegedly.

Seriously, the way in which I see politicians/pundits I generally agree with (ie Matlow) talk about this is migraine inducing. This mindset of GO as a creature of the undefinable suburbanite, never going to serve the city, used as an argument against building stations that would serve the city is very frustrating.

And the whole 'why should the city pay for this' is crazy in the context of the deal Tory made which would see the province pay for all subway expansion. for all time, so long as we just built these half dozen stations.
 
So, instead of finding essential solutions for connecting neighbourhoods city council are cracking jokes about station names.

As a rough estimate ... there are some 10,000 units/residences within walking distance in this area that have been built/valued/sold under the promise of added value with the King/Liberty connection. If those units see even a 5% drop because of this station being deferred that could mean a loss of over $400M across current owners in the area.
