The complex part of the site preparations is the work to install the support structure for the two existing walls - the ones fronting on King Street and Blue Jays Way - to be incorporated into the new structure. The foundations for the support structure are in place, and the steel girders are now being installed. As of last night, the steel girder support structure had reached approximately half way up the Blue Jays Way facade. I believe that all the shoring required for the site has been completed, and that once the support structure for the two facades is in place the balance of the existing building will be demolished, and then excavation can start in earnest.

Is there a reason why they kept the facade bricks of the other two walls that are to be demolished,
..the renderings don't show that brick being used anywhere else?

Yeah, very cool indeed. Totally different approach to heritage facade preservation when compared to E&Y Tower, but I suppose the height has a lot to do with that.

At EY, as with Bay Adelaide Centre West before it, the heritage buildings were disassembled and rebuilt instead of being preserved in place because…
1) yes, they were both about three times the height of this, and would have been tougher to keep in place, but more importantly,
2) they did not have the right floor height for the new building. I can't remember the number of storeys involved at Bay Adelaide West, but at EY, the 16-storey Concourse Building has been rebuilt as a 13-storey building with taller windows to reflect the higher office floor heights now. At King Blue, the podium behind the facade will house hotel rooms, and the floor heights won't need to change. Therefore, you might as well keep it in place, as was done at Five.
