I wonder how the colour will hold up through the winter -- there might be some natural toning down. Also, once the trees fill in, it will mute the colour somewhat.

That's moderate enough. Still strong, but there's relief from it too. Looking forward to seeing it finished!

This is the concept they are building to, so we may see a blue coloured section go in soon too:

Yeah, the design seem to have lost some of the intricacies from the original proposal (seems finer-grained) but I think it held up well enough.

The blue area wont be coloured blue. I think the blue in the diagram is just there to show that it will be the "Wet" part of the park. It's supposed to be a shallow pool with water fountains. (Shown below, by Angelo Sol on Facebook)

I biked by this evening. They were just finishing up the installation of the pink surface, which it turns out is rubberized. It's from a company from Bowmanville called Ure-tech Surfaces. It will feel like the splash pad at Corktown Common.

I don't get why the city is so afraid of providing retail space within it's parks. Something like a tea/coffee shop would have been a perfect addition here, or at Sugar Beach, or at Sherbourne Common, or at Canoe Landing, or at.... you get the point.

Even something small like this would be nice:

There is a cafe just to the west of the park. Not as pretty as that though :) ^^^

No. Toronto just doesn't seem to know how to do parks. Parks involve attention to detail, materials, texture, colour, ambience, etc. We do function. Lay down sod, plant a tree, and voila! Toronto won't ever get a park as nice as the one with that Magnolia cafe. We'd use cement for starters. And if they allowed a cafe, it will be either a minimalist bunker or a food truck with blinky lights on it. A beautiful forest green painted hut made of wood? Not a chance.

Lets not forget that Wellesley Park will have a 50 floor condo on it. Can you imagine New York doing that to Bryant Park? I don't know how we manage to screw up a blank canvas, but we do.
