It's a shame the developer gave in to the selfish NIMBY's that pollute this neighbourhood by seriously chopping down the height of the buildings, but otherwise this plan looks fantastic. I'm still shocked that this sleepy corner deep within suburban Etobicoke is getting a project with such a sophisticated urban design. Can't wait to see it built.
 
The Nimbies got their way--Etobicoke CC rejected this proposal tonight. What if the developers actually listened to the Nimbies?

Toronto Council did not reject this. Etobicoke Community Council did. They are very different beasts.

Wallman is also involved now.

Mayor (allegedly) Rob Ford was at the Etobicoke Community Council meeting, between campaigning in the parking lot while skipping the deputations but joining in the vote.

In the Humbertown neighbourhood, I am constantly seeing bungalows getting a new second floor, additions being put on the side or back or both of existing houses, moderately sized houses being demolished to be replaced by monster mansions, existing houses getting facelifts, or houses replaced by multiple townhouses or multiple houses.

When it comes turn for the shopping centre to have its turn, the NIMBYs gang up.
 
The turnout at the meeting was unexpectedly low, but of course the bluster and overwrought hyperbole from the resident's association and city councillors was turned up to 11 as usual. Pure NIMBYism of the highest order. Absolutely disgusting. The vote at the end was totally meaningless. The city planners in charge are in favour of it, and this proposal is going to city council on June 11 for a final vote for approval or rejection. It's almost guaranteed to wind up at the OMB, where it will easily pass because it's a great proposal that not only meets all the city guidelines according to the Official Plan, but the developer has already compromised with local concerns to a surprising degree by making a significant reduction in the height and density of the project, and those efforts in good faith will certainly help them at the OMB.

And which may, in total honesty, be for the reasons the Fords typically invoke re their supporters not turning up at delegations, a whole lot of people "working hard and earling their keep", or unwinding after a day of the same. Even if they (superficially) support in principle, they couldn't be bothered actually *attending* the meeting--at most, let others do so on their behalf.

Of course, those NIMBYS should've known that kind of underattendance was coming.
 
There were still hundreds of them. 400? 500? Someone who was there earlier might have a better idea than I do of how many turned up.

The auditorium of this church seats 3500, so you could still have lots of people there and not have it look full.

Bullshit. Not only has First Capital gone out of their way to increase the number and size of each community consultation, they met with the community in an 8-session working group to try and find some middle ground. Then, to show some good faith, they changed their proposal four times from the initial submission last year. Furthermore, Senior Planner Michael Hynes personally taught classes to these residents on how planning in the GTA works and what effect they could have.

I like giving you a wide birth since I find your provocateurism enjoyable and somewhat endearing. This however is something you just pulled from your ass. You've expressed that you don't want to be part of community meetings and that's fine but don't then come back to this board with some fact-free slur about how First Capital "isn't nice" because it just reflects poorly on you.
