base and the tower compliments that Cathedral. (Color)

It compliments the cathedral, but I find the base totally generic and uninspiring compared to the cathedral, a major architectural landmark. I wasn't expecting another cathedral here, but it would have been nice to invest in something more sophisticated than a basic pattern of vertical lines with some forgettable stone or precast cladding. They should have channelled Yamasaki instead of Mies for this one with his penchant for Gothic-inspired arches harmonized with contemporary architecture.

I think Menkes is pretty underrated. I have criticized them in the past, it's true that 75% of their projects are pretty good. Their designs are kind of sloppy but quality is pretty good.
 
Quality? Maybe inside....but they're very hit or miss with material execution on the exterior of buildings. Personally I'm not a fan of Menkes, but they can pull off a good looking project every so often.
