Toronto Festival Tower and tiff Lightbox | 156.96m | 42s | Daniels | KPMB

I see this as a very good fit as Rogers is very involved in supporting cultural facilities, has a vested interest in the Canadian film industry and has a lot of real estate holdings that might lend themselves to host the new TIFF Marketplace.

Why is it that corporate sponsorship of the arts in this country always seems to come down to a very small cadre of the 'usual suspects'(Bell, Telus, Rogers, Air Canada)? In a country as large, wealthy and diverse as ours, surely there are more than just a handful of individuals and corporate entities out there with a love of the arts and pockets that go as deep. As for naming rights, with its crimson name already plastered about the city to saturation point(including atop Skydome), what are the odds Rogers will be content in the knowledge they've done a good thing, forgo naming rights and settle instead for a lovely bronze plague in the TIFF lobby?

Bronze plague?! 😜

I bet that OCAD is salivating over this as they are already using Lightbox for classes and would have many disciplines that Rogers might want to foster! New ‘Rogers Centre for …’

They should call it the Festival Tower and tiff Rogering Lightbox...

...er..though he latter part may raise few eyebrows. 🙀

Just read on CBC that the Rogers deal is only for the Festival itself so a bit more work to do.

So the schedule for the 2024 Festival is being released tomorrow! So excited as I love this time of year. Also hoping for more info on the new marketplace TIFF is promoting for 2026 as well as a few ground breaking such as Basin Media Centre.

TIFF starts on Wednesday and I am looking forward to details about the TIFF Marketplace planned for 2026. And since there has been very little info I have decided to share what Cannes and Berlin have as they are mentioned as models.

Cannes has a dedicated faculty with 2 large halls adjacent to the main cinemas similar to a convention centre. There is also a large roof terrace that hosts temporary tensile pavilions during events. In addition there are 60 pavilions where nations promote their industries. Berlin later.

So this is much larger than I imagined. But where? I don’t know but if I had to guess I would say a portion of the convention centre or an expansion thereof that would involve Oxford and possibly Westbank as they also own property along Front.
