Toronto Eglinton Line 5 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

They just chose not to open the station as it was in the middle of a forest till development caught up. Oppose to these Crosstown stations that can't open cause who knows what is ML hiding.
Yeah I had to dig into it too, which goes to show this is *not* making us feel better. Thanks for trying though A.

Why is the name change so under the radar? Why not just announce it like the change from Downsview to Sheppard West in 2017?
i mean this is at the top of the stations page on the website

signs are changing but the name has not officially changed yet

The current final result is definitely an adequate setup to have. Now I'm wondering how painful the walk would have been if the Line 5 concourse entered the Line 1 platforms in the middle rather than the end, causing people who get off at the southern end needing to go north to the middle then backtrack south to get transfer to the Line 5 platforms.
The TTC has never designed a connection like that, so I'm not sure what the point of your pondering is supposed to achieve.

Dan

Right, but significant mixed signals, no?
You can't do everything overnight. They haven't done their official changeover yet - I assume that will be opening day for Line 5.

You see the same in other cities. I was in Seattle a month before the Lynwood extension of the Link - and it was a mix of old and new signage. Announcements, etc.

because the name hasnt changed yet???

Look I'm just bored with there being a void of other info for this thread to discuss, it's a stupid nitpick. But per my previous post, web info should be easier to queue up. And my impression from the news releases from Metrolinx / the province is that 'the name changed effective November 16'.

I assume it will be more synchronous electronically. Though I'd think Metrolinx is wrong, given that TTC only put up the "soon" signage for Cedarvale and TMU stations starting around the 16th! Obviously the decision isn't Metrolinx's to make.

Since the signage change is happening gradually, is there ever going to be a date that can be pinned down as the "official" date? Maybe count the signs, and when more than 50% say Cedarville, it's official?

Over half of the stuff on their website uses the old name. This article says there were >7,000 paper maps and 150 signs to change when Downsview became Sheppard West, so I understand it taking time. But the web stuff? That should be pre-loaded and clocked to change automatically.

This name change is going to be 50% late like this whole line.
I don’t get the inconsistency in naming? We renamed Downsviewn to Sheppard West, but feel the need to change Eglinton West to Cedarvale and Dundas to TMU. I get yeeting the east/west thing for confusions sake, but is Sheppard West gonna stay?

Nov 16
Not sure what the headways was to be but it was 2-15 minutes betwebb LRV sets I believe the 15 minute gap had di to cars been short turn at Hemb as I saw one doing this on my return trip after shooting the video from the DVP to Kennedy.

Where I normal setup to shot photos I saw this happen with a westbound LRV set arriving at Hakimi station. What got me for that short turn was the LRV set only went westbound to Pharmacy station and then became an eastbound LRV set. When that LRV set that became an eastbound train and clear the crossove the other westbound LRV set sitting at the Hakimi station proceed westbound.

LRV short turn at Hakimi is now short turning at Pharmacy station

Metrolinx doesnt really have a say in when the ttc renames one of their existing stations. Only mention i found about the name in recent metrolinx releases is "Eglinton West Station will be renamed Cedarvale Station once Line 5 Eglinton opens."

if they extend line 4 to sheppard west they should rename it cedarvale north

Two different naming schemes. The Vaughan extension of Line 1 was a TTC project so it follows the TTC's preferred naming scheme. Pioneer Village for example was supposed to be called "Steeles West" and VMC was simply supposed to be "Vaughan Centre" until politicians started meddling. Also the TTC didn't want to have Downsview and Downsview Park right after each other due to possible confusion. The Crosstown is a Metrolinx project and they have their own naming scheme (which they don't follow sometimes) and for them they want stations to have unique and "meaningful" names. That said early in the project MX said they wouldn't rename pre-existing stations, yet here we are because once again they have a naming scheme which the paid some know-nothing consultant god knows how much money to create and then don't even bother to follow it.

If the Crosstown used the TTC naming scheme then Eglinton West would keep its name and Eglinton would become Eglinton-Yonge (which honestly it still should).
