Toronto Eglinton Line 5 Crosstown West Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

The plan has been for years of building a bridge over the 401 for Commerce Blvd to get to Pearson as an BRT/LRT route. Design plate is confirming that plan. Once on the north side of the 401 for the LRT, it unknow how it will connect to the airport at this time, but the BRT will connect to terminal 1.

Only once a real plan and construction of a new transit hub at the airport, will we know how the LRT will connect to the hub as well other lines.
The design plate is out of date, routing seems to now be via Explorer.
 
A station at Matheson makes a lot of sense for workers in the area. They no longer would need to take a Miway bus or walk 15 minutes from Renforth.

It really does. Would also be a big boost for corporate centre in terms of attracting tenants etc. It would also help solidify Mississauga’s claim that it is served by two LRT lines.

The idea is still the same regardless where it cross the 401.

To take it west to Explorer would require either running on different roads, the transitway or tunnel 100% from Renforth to the airport. It cannot be elevated due to runways being in the way.

Every costly as well longer timeframe to get the extension up and running if it tunnel 100% to the airport. Regardless which way, a lot of us will not be around when service starts at the rate this thing is going these days to be built. Been 19 years when the EA started for the Transitway and still not 100% built today. The LRT is only 15 years old and will be 23 year old when service to Renforth starts, it then. The LRT idea will be about 40 years old when service starts servicing the airport,.

Still need an miWay bus since there is more than 1 route servicing the area, as well TTC and GO. The Transitway is a GO Thing, not miWay.

Seriously though, once it crosses the 401, there's no need for it to be elevated, as the only road it needs to cross is Convair just west of Renforth - where only a relatively small bridge is needed, with Convair already in a bit of a road cut. Isn't the 5 story GTAA building in the distance much higher than an overpass?

After that it's clear sailing to the tank farm - which is also higher than elevated Line 5.

The Link Train is outside the runway zone like the UPX is.

If you are doing a transit bridge, it should be for both buses and LRT since both will be going the airport in the first place. A lot faster for GO and the so call miWay 100 route as well the 107

The intersection of Convair and Renforth is also outside the runway zone. As would be the bridge over the 401.

Ture, but you still have to go inside of the runway zone to get a short line to the airport on the surface. If you tunnel under the runway, no big deal other than cost and time to build that tunnel.

Under the runways? I was discussing the Explorer Road alignment that started this month's discussion, that goes around the airport, and along Renforth.
 
Light metro? The platforms are longer than Line 4, and the trains are wider than most of the trains in Montreal Metro, Paris Metro, and London Underground.

The train capacity is well beyond light-metro (and the current Line 3 - which was called intermediate capacity) - even if they had lower frequencies than planned.

Is Line 4 "light-metro"?
The capacity is the product of length and width . . . and these are trams not metro trains which have far less useable interior space as we all know, plus less doors.

Once again, these names are grey areas.

Like is Line 5 an LRT since it has a at-grade part? So then the DLR is a metro since it does not? Even thought the trains are the same width? So then is the O-Train LRT or Metro?

The O-train is a Light Metro with awful vehicles.

Additionally, the headwalls at Martin Grove are fully completed and the piling rig has been dismantled.

Kipling station headwalls are still ongoing. The western headwall is completed and the piling rig is now working on the eastern headwall.
