Dear neighbours,
Below is a notice and a brief update on the progress of the CIBC SQUARE project:
Construction at 81 Bay Street
Construction continues to progress on the 81 Bay Street tower core, despite some impact from the recent snow and ice storms and extremely cold temperatures. The concrete core walls are approaching level 27, with concrete core slabs expected to reach level 21 by the end of next week. As the tower core climbs, we are installing core interior stairs on the north and south ends of the tower and have also started to install metal decking for each floor – presently installing this metal decking for levels six through nine. Work to install levels seven through nine of structural steel for the tower is well underway and expected to be complete this week. Next week, crews will proceed with structural steel installation for levels nine through 11. Setting formwork for the ceiling of level two of the new bus terminal is also underway.
Beginning Friday, February 15th, structural steel installation in the south portal and southwest retail will take place from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday to Friday. This work will take place in the areas north and south of the current core. We respect our neighbours and will endeavor to ensure that work after 7 p.m. generates limited noise, completing louder activities during normal working hours whenever possible.
Additionally, please be advised that on February 17th and 18th a small crew will be on-site to perform maintenance work. This includes work on podium tower crane number three, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. This crane work is being scheduled during this timeframe due to delays caused by severe weather experienced earlier this week. Crews will also be on-site to continue to secure tarps enclosing the tower core. This work is ongoing for safety, due to weather conditions. Work will begin during regular working hours on Saturday, and is expected to continue on Sunday, February 17th between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Rail Corridor Overbuild Park
We continue to install structural steel in the southwest section of the overbuild park as part of the fifth phase of construction. Work in this phase includes plumbing, bolting and torqueing of steel, as well as truss installation. This phase of work is expected to continue for approximately two more weeks, weather permitting. As the final pieces of steel in this fifth phase of work are installed, you may occasionally hear increased hammering as work to fit pieces of steel together and ensure the integrity of the structure is being completed. For safety reasons, this work continues to take place overnight as workers are not permitted to be in the rail corridor during the day or evening when tracks are being used by trains. Your patience during this phase of work is very much appreciated.
