Its actually interesting, Pickering and Markham have been pushing Toronto to widen Steeles in the northeastern corner of the city, but Toronto hasn't widened a road in over a decade and has been very reserved about it. Its the last 2 lane arterial left in the city, from my understanding.
Is anti-car sentiment the only reason why Steeles remains only two lanes in that short stretch, while Taunton is four? Why didn't Ford bring it up? I though it was squabbling over whether Toronto or York Region would pay for it. That must also explain the short four-lane stretch between Yonge and Bathurst.
