Toronto Bike Share

Not sure if Bike Share Toronto released the slides from that presentation - couldn't make it due to a last minute commitment - but they need to start adding bike share stations along Eglinton West in Etobicoke given the planned extension of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT. This plan represents a shift in focus from the prior round of expansion which focused more on breadth instead of depth.

I agree w/all of the above.

But would add that some of the areas I noted are rather conspicuous and seemingly arbitrary holes in the network coverage.

Equally, some areas like East York which are close to the core and have high potential seem to have very little added depth.

Now that they've hit the "25/25 wards" milestone, "equity" seems to no longer be a priority despite all the gaps (though focusing on investing in the higher ridership / potential corridors seems like the right decision!)

Would've been nice to see an expansion into Malvern / Rouge Valley (took me 44 minutes to get from the last McNicoll station to UTSC via Scarborough Pit Spur the other day with no station in between). Or even Alton Towers, Milliken Park and the bike lanes now along Steeles.

Surprised there's minimal investment into adding stations along the Sheppard complete street (based on the previous Growth Plan it seems like the stations are relatively hardcoded, apart from minor positional changes? - so not sure if they'll be able to change their plans should the deferred Bayview-Leslie segment get approval in the near future)

I'm not sure what's the point of a York Mills bikeshare station when you're stuck at the bottom of a valley (= logistics challenge as likely one-way traffic? if you're an office worker and someone beats you to the last dock there - you are very screwed!), and there's no stations in the adjacent area not on Yonge.

Lets see if I can enlarge the Bikeshare Future Stations a bit:

A couple of sections stand out for relative lack of proposed installations:

Next to nothing for Wexford and eastern portions of North York between Eglinton and 401.

Etobicoke mostly ignored:

Nothing new along Queensway in South Etobicoke either.....

Also almost nothing anywhere along Steeles.
Disgusting. There must be a way to get around that asshole Holyday...

Remember, you're running for Councillor against him next year, you really should be talking to potential campaign managers and fundraisers about now; and making sure you save up some vacation days for campaigning!

"Every winter, we give our e-bikes the care they need to keep your rides smooth and reliable. Cold weather can reduce battery life by up to 50%, so over the next two months, we’ll be gradually removing e-bikes from the system for maintenance.

Classic bikes will remain available all season and e-bikes will return in spring, refreshed and ready for your city rides!"

In the system right now there are just 375 e-bikes at docks. Classic bikes at stations is 5904. Imagine few are being used at the moment so that's probably pretty close to the total available in the network.

I walked past 4 or 5 Bike Docks in St Lawrence yesterday afternoon. I saw THREE empty docking 'ports' and I know at least one of them has been defective for months. They REALLY need to take some more bikes off the street or buy more docks!!

Tempting as it might be, I would not engage in any political debates, and besides, who would take ME seriously??

I honestly think you could do it.

You're the opposite of Holyday in so many ways.

But you would have to take it somewhat seriously. Mounting a credible campaign will be costly though, you'll need at least 60k.

Your object would not be to sway the typical voter in your ward (over 50 homeowners) it would be too woo the middle aged and the young and and renters. If you could turn out ~35% of those you might have it.

Across 10 stations around St Lawrence Market right now there's a capacity of 225 docks with just 1 disabled. Maybe it's an issue with it being defective but not disabled, I dunno. I'm not sure what the process is for them finding out, and how they disable it.
Here are the stations I looked up: King St E / Jarvis St, King St E / Church St, George St / King St E, Frederick St / The Esplanade, Frederick St / King St E, 1 Market St, Church St / The Esplanade, Front St E / Scott St (2), George St S / The Esplanade, Wellington St E / Church St

I know it can feel like a problem that's widespread but right now there are 299 docks disabled out of a total dock capacity of 18840. 98.4% in service seems pretty good to me.

Yes, most certainly DO work but one (Lower Sherbourne just south of The Esplanade) has been out of service for many months. I see no way to report it. The map does not note any being disabled. Though I would like them to deal with broken docks, the REAL problem is that there are far too often ZERO available docks!

Ya, it's frustrating. Would be nice if the docks were numbered at least or have an easier way to report it than having to send an email or call in.. no one's going to do that. And if you did you'd have to somehow describe which one... "I think it was the 4th dock from the south side." Lots to improve for sure.

I’ve reported the 3 docks that haven’t worked in the Esplanade and Sherbourne rack for over a year repeatedly. Still no sign of them fixing them. They’ve been broken so long that most locals know not even to attempt docking in those 3 spots. One of them in particular often registers your bike as docked, but then it lets you pull it off the rack for free.

Where am I going to get 60 K, and who would invest that in someone like me? 😄
