The East Don is a bit sparse still, but the West Don is pretty well covered:

Coverage on the Humber is dense south of the fork.

There is no coverage on the West Humber after the split; the East Humber has limited coverage near Finch.

You'll see more coverage.

Somewhere in the ~100-130 docks left to go this year.

Next year's expansion will be announced in the fall.

It's nice to see that every single station even has a bike!

Bike Share Toronto sent an e-blast about 4pm today announcing they have surpassed 1 million rides in July 2025.

Good stuff. You can visibly see more bikes and more people riding them around town.

Anecdotally, I rode down Bloor last night at 9ish and even at that hour there were plenty of others biking and using the lanes. Was never that busy years ago.

In respect of the above; Bikeshare Toronto consistently achieves its highest monthly ridership in August of each year, so that number will bear watching.

In August '24 (last year) they hit 902, 984, which was their highest for that year. Just a couple of k above the July number.

Providing they aggressively role out new stations throughout the month, I would think, 1.1M would be within reach; it may also be possible to get a higher than usual September. (which is usually only a small fall off)

The station on the north west corner of Greenwood and Sammon Ave has been taken out with just a patch of dirt remaining. Wonder why they took it out?

There's road rehab that includes pedestrian safety improvements for Greenwood from Mortimer to Strathmore, could it be because of that? I don't know the status of the construction, just that it's on the infrastructure viewer

Been 3 weeks since my last updates on expansion.

In that time, Bikeshare has added 16 net new stations bringing the total to 949.

In the north-west, they added:

There are several new locations which I'll show together (with some existing)

New here is Agincourt Library, the locations on Hungtingwood from Midland eastward, Agincourt Rec. Ctr, McCowan/Pitfield and more.

The sites for this year are already picked out.

A few will get shuffled cause construction and what not.......so there's an outside shot. But mostly this year's list is done.

So some information about Bixi, Montreal Bike Share and their rebalancing program.

You need the $23/mo membership (free 45/min rides, discounted e-bikes). There's flexibility as a month to month plan instead of yearly but they probably get more revenue per user compared to Toronto. There's also a lower hurdle to getting started, and they could get a lot of value in a month.

Become an AMI BIXI! - BIXI Montréal

The AMI BIXI program is an eco-friendly way to rebalance the BIXI network by increasing bike and dock availability.

Earn 1-3 points from taking bikes from full stations and/or depositing at empty stations.

"Every AMI BIXI point that you earn is added to your monthly total. When you reach 10 points, you’ll automatically receive an e-mail with a code for a free 30-minute electric BIXI ride!* In one month, you can earn up to 40 points, and receive a maximum of 4 free rides. On the first day of every month, the monthly total will reset to zero. At any time, you can view the number of points earned for the year or since you became an AMI BIXI. Even if there’s no reward yet, it’s still satisfying to see all those points!"

So the rewards are capped, and they reserve the right to ban people from the points program. A small incentive to get an electric bike ride which is quite nice for the user, while free electric rides doesn't cost that much for the network.

Rebalancing is for sure something they need to tackle.

But they also need to clearly reinforce areas where demand is exceeding supply.

We'll look at a few this morning.

Straight up, I'm looking areas where 3 or more Bikeshare stations in close proximity have zero bikes after morning rush. That indicates clear unmet demand/room for growth.

I'm also looking for 2 or more stations in close proximity with no spots to docks.

First up, Woodbine/Danforth:

6 docks, only 1 bike available, Additional dock required east of Cedarvale, and north of Strathmore.

To the west, the docks are relatively small and ideally one could enlarge these by six docks / 3 bikes before going to additional locations.

Now the Weston Area:

Definitely need an additional dock right on Weston, maybe another infill location too.

Two of the existing docks on Weston are very small, and enlargements would be ideal, failing that a further additional dock.

Midtown may be inordinately a rebalancing issue, but definitely needs attention:

Leaside doesn't have good coverage, another station is definitely warranted:

Bloor East/Cabbagetown definitely has an issue:

No areas showed an inability to find a place to dock though some are tight.

Did have trouble finding a bike around Church and Richmond last night around 6, and then again at King and John at 9:30. Had to walk up to Queen & Bay to land a bike. Think there needs to be a concerted effort to rebalance, and if they had some sort of points or rewards system I would probably spend some spare time moving bikes around on my own for the exercise.
