Toronto Bike Share

I am in Montreal again, where you see the Bixi bikes everywhere and the usage is very high, both electric and non-electric. Not sure if Montreal and Toronto have usage stats and data on networks, but that would be interesting. The system is just so easy to use here, and inviting. You just walk downstairs, across the street, pick up your bike with the app, off for cocktails, and dinner, grab another bike for the ride home, just be care full for the accidents waiting to happen ( electric bikes/scooters travelling at high speed,;no lights, dark clothes, all over the road). Now I just need better luggage to tow behind the bike after I jump off the train.

In 2021 when we were still in the pandemic it seemed like everyone and their mother from Toronto was visiting Montreal and so was I. I had been there many times before but I saw it from a completely different perspective using Bixi. You can also cover so much more ground. It's loads of fun riding on the motor race track on the old Expo island (the men in lycra were beating me). I was only there for 2 nights and was paying by the minute. The first night I realized it made more sense to get a monthly pass even though I only used it for 1.5 days more.

I am in Montreal quite frequently and have given up using the car in downtown. The BIXI/ Metro combination is just too much fun ( pouring rain can limit that, but offers an excuse for a nightcap). And you are correct, you can easily cover a lot of ground. I am waiting for the REM now, because I can access that for some calls across the river as well.

Also one in HTO Park (West) ; already one on the east side.

This one just went in this morning and is not yet on the map.

They need more than 1 at downsview. Should be one right outside downsview station to connect to the Centennial campus one. Otherwise it's kinda pointless.

I'm at Bay and King every morning (right there in fact!) and the bikeshare is a really major operation.

Love hearing that! They need to start implementing this for Jays games and shows at Budweiser Stage.

Surely they also have data for when Trinity Bellwoods, Woodbine Beach, or any other public event is causing crowding at a location and actively deploy truckloads of bikes. Dynamic Superstations seems like a great way to introduce new people to bike share.

I live around Jane & Weston. Would like to be able to use the bike share from Jane & Weston to get to the UPX station at Mt. Dennis Station. There is no bike share facility at either locations, yet.

Would be better if I could "transfer" from the bike share to the UPX/GO trains or Line 5 using Presto, with some sort of "discount".

I don't get out a huge amount these days due to having a young kid (though did make it to the New Pornographers concert on Friday!) but I think they do try. Bay and King is probably easy because the volumes are probably really predictable each day of the week.
