For some time now, the Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC) has been struggling with maintaining its homes. With over $750 million in backlogged repair, the TCHC has been looking for ways to lower that number and to increase its reserves. One idea is to sell off their high potential sites to development companies.

The TCHC recently released an open tender, seeking plans on how to redevelop one of their more attractive locations – 250 Davenport Rd. – located in the Annex, just off of Avenue Rd. Currently, the address features a high-rise apartment building, but it’s in rough shape. The TCHC is looking to either partner or sell the site to a developer. No price has been announced, but given the location and the 1.6-acre size, it will probably cost a developer a pretty penny. The bidding process remains open until April 23rd.

The green space hides a underground facility for the 460 unit tower that is in rough shape. It wouldn't interest me.

Leveraging the land value of parking garage lands at the property, which is located near Avenue Road in downtown Toronto, will generate funds for major capital repairs at 250 Davenport and other buildings. An advance of up to $7 million will be used in 2013 and 2014 to improve unit interiors, security and building systems at 250 Davenport.

"TCHC has become a leader, and is taking on a very interesting renewal project at 250 Davenport, site development with significant reinvestment into the existing tower."
 
I am told that the BBB design is a concept only.

Bad move. TCHC should sell the existing tower to private sector, keep 20% of units subsidized and sprinkle the existing tenants throughout the city in market rate apartments.

Reinvesting in it is tantamount to burning money.
 
I cant wait to see this be redeveloped into something useful,this plot of land is "AAA" no matter how you slice it. There is close to 20 condos either approved/pending approval or under construction in this part of the Annex and this one should be one of them. Sadly much of the petty theft that happens in the area is coming from the residents of this TCHC building and the halfway house not too far away. A real plan needs to be set in place like the redevelopment plan at Regent park. If you treat people like the 3rd world citizens they will act like the 3rd world citizens. Just my 2 cents. While were at it get rid of the blinds to go as well!

Got any sources to back that up other than "poor people are automatically thieves" as you seem to be implying? Because your constant classist remarks are getting severely annoying. Especially for someone who lives in this very neighbourhood and has never had a single problem with any of the people living in the TCHC building or halfway house (but tons of trouble with rich douchebags screaming up and down Avenue Rd. at night with loud cars and motorcycles).
