That's. a VERY Canadian response. We're forever searching for reasons NOT to do something. Despite the attempt to explain it away we do build quality public realm. So does even colder and snowier Montreal. If snow was an issue we wouldn't do it at all.

And there are other options too. Oslo did a cost-benefit analysis and concluded that it was CHEAPER to heat sidewalks than pay for salting, continually replace pavement, and have people in hospital due to slips/falls. ALL of downtown Oslo pavement is now heated and it's already paid itself. We should stop making excuses for ourselves, find solutions/ways to do better. The view that we do everything right and have have little to learn from other places needs to stop.

No it isn't. It would have been the same response if I lived in Buffalo.

...that said, if you want to put a fire underneath TO's heals, then by all means compare it to Scandinavian countries. Not to some far flung local that rarely sees snow.

New Park at 234 Simcoe Street​


A new park is coming to 234 Simcoe St. which will be part of an integrated Relic Linear Park System. The City will be engaging the community to help determine the park design and programming.

Project Timeline​

  • April 2021: Hiring a design team
  • May to October 2021: Concept development and community engagement
  • November 2021 to April 2022: Construction drawing preparation
  • Early 2023: Hiring a construction team
  • Summer 2023 to Summer 2024: Construction starts
The timeline is subject to change.

As part of a new mixed-use condominium development at 234 Simcoe St., there will be a new 1,000m2 municipal park. The park will be located on the east side of St. Patrick Street, south of Dundas Street West and will be incorporated into the Relic Linear Park System.

The concept for the park will aim to align with the community-led The Grange Green Plan (July 4, 2018 Community Council decision PDF) and will artfully embrace the architectural relic stones. The park will have a strong connection to the Privately-Owned Publicly Accessible Spaces (POPS) located just north of the new park.

The City will be working closely with the developer to design and construct the new park and the park programming will be developed in consultation with the community.

Realistically how long will this take to complete? Seems like construction is rather slow...

This is a large complicated building project to which it is neither past the podium bits. Nor does it appear to be broken into phases.

...more interestingly though are those erected domino slabs in front. They're suggesting something is interesting afoot to which I'm in no rush to see what pans out from it. Part of the fun really.
 
It's been almost 2 years since the excavation started not including the shoring. Shouldn't this development be all most finishing off the two or more tower's by now? Can't wait to see it finished as seen in the box on the very top !
