Located on the west side of Woodbine, one block north of Danforth. Replaces the existing building on the corner. It's also across the street from a subway entrance to its north and east:

From this weekend's NEWSLETTER from Councillor Bradford -

996 Woodbine Open House

As you may have heard, 2-Spirits – a non-profit, Toronto-based organization focused on supporting First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples, and who have an office at 2126 Danforth Ave just east of Woodbine – are proposing to build and operate a shelter for 2SLGBTQ+ Indigenous people at 996 Woodbine Avenue, a city-owned property right next to Woodbine Station.

Many in the community first heard of this proposed project through an application from 2-Spirits to the Committee of Adjustment. While there were many expressions of support, others raised questions or concerns and were seeking more information about the proposal. 2-Spirits chose to defer their application to provide additional time for discussions with the community.

This is why I am grateful that 2-Spirits will be hosting an open house to provide community members with an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the proposed project. I hope to see you there.

  • Where: Legion Branch 22, 1240 Woodbine Ave
  • When: 5 – 7 pm on Tuesday, November 12th, 2024

Also, worth noting that this 996 WOODBINE AVE site was considered for denser development via the EHON Pilot program in Beaches - East York, but was removed from that program in 2021, because of it's location above the subway station box at WOODBINE.

"The Pilot Project team explored missing middle housing opportunities, including consideration for a range of low-rise building forms, on selected City-owned sites in Ward 19. In 2021, the City-owned site, known municipally as 996 Woodbine Avenue, was selected for detailed property due diligence as per the site selection criteria. However, physical infrastructure constraints eliminated its consideration for further study."

That's why this WOODBINE site is only being asked to carry 4-Storeys and 6-Apartments in 2024, and the EHON Pilot program was moved South to the AMROTH parking-lot site.

Is this property owned by the City, or by 2-Spirits? If this property is/was City-owned why wasn't this used for the Woodbine second exit instead of expropriating the property on the north side of Strathmore?

I believe they did expropriate this address. The Woodbine Second Exit project offices were definitely located in it.

Correct, the City / TTC expropriated BOTH the North-West and South-West corners of Woodbine and Strathmore in around 2013...
