Toronto 83 Bloor West | 260.25m | 77s | Parallax | Arcadis

95A Bloor W, at the NE corner of Bloor and St Thomas, was built as the Georg Jensen jewellery store which opened in 1956 -- once a beautiful mid-century modern box, a perfect match to Jensen's Danish modern aesthetic, but now brutalized by decades of reuse -- first for Roots, a sunglass store for a while, most recently Victorinox. Don't know if it can be saved or is worth saving.
Don't forget the brief year it was Far Coast, Coca Cola's short-lived, coffee chain, brand.

Unusual to see this amount of space devoted to a residential lobby fronting something like the Mink Mile:

271m doesn't look like alot compared to tall buildings close by. Bloor and Yonge intersection (or around it) has some of the tallest buildings in the entire country.

1,118 units? wow haha.

Agreed, lobby needs to go on St. Thomas. There is also a lot of wasted back of house space on that ground floor plan that can probably be consolidated to allow for more grade level retail GFA.

271.2m in height, though there are some fins that look like they stick up another metre or so.

The second level retail space is also so broken up it's almost useless. Who in the hell is going to rent that?

Also, LOL at the retained "heritage" building on the corner. What in the world is heritage about it exactly? Demo it, it looks very out of place.

that weird projection on the tower 1/3rd the way from the top weakened the vertical lines of the tower.

AoD
I think it makes the building look regal. Having the same effect as podium with the detailed precast or metal trim. Being supported underneath with same detailed columns and round trim etc. This building kind of mimics an art deco style building's flare with theses kind of details lol ! As seen in the photos up above!

Overall I love this! And the height is very good, too. Of course, if it does get built, we'll see how it actually works out in reality. 😃

Anybody knows why is this little thing on the west side of podium left there? What is so precious to save? Was it just one odd duck not willing to sell?
