Can't say that I've ever been there when it was around, but according to this article yes it was the location of Chaps:

I got food poisoning at the Aji Sai on Queen. Horrifically, they also had a sign in the bathroom instructing patrons not to flush toilet paper but instead to put it in the garbage can. As you can imagine, I've never been back...

My thoughts on the above........
Too much going on on the tower.......3 major colours/treatments.
Yonge Street frontage just doesn't vibe for me w/the surround retail aesthetic.

ground floor need some work, but the tower is fine. I like the brick going up.

I like the red brick, but don't love how it changes to the black framing halfway up the building. Just carry the red all the way up and simplify. Ground floor works for me and I think the height is fine, just gotta resolve that tower facade a bit better.

It's too busy looking! Like The Gloucester at 599 Yonge St. Less is more stick with a theme! Though I do like the colours and the thick columns and beams cladding creating the punctured window look. As seen in the photos up above.
