What used to be on the corner:

By the 50s it seems to have been cut down to its remaining form (fire?), with the corner rebuilt later:

Good to see no significant heritage losses, but I question the wavy corner podium treatment, which has been already already architecturally done to death.

I think the 'crystal cave' arched design is infinitely more interesting as a design motif for the podium.
