In case it wasn't clear already, this Star interview with Mizrahi sheds light on his 'philosophy' on design (and likely not only for this project but for everything he does):

Funny thing is, that most people that think the way he does, only apply this 'sense of aesthetics' to architecture, but when it comes to anything else, like the 911 Turbo he drives, its all modern and technologically current with the times.

Good point, considering his buildings are more like the PT Cruiser.

The concrete shell is actually quite pleasing

Which is why they must stop now and hire the NimbyTect to redesign the window dressing/cladding in a hurry!

The NimbyTect will turn this vulgar stretched Town Car into a Phantom for less than the price of a Maybach--guaranteed!

You and your lame jokes.

I like ud's lame jokes.

Sadly I don't think he's joking. I find this project really offensive. They are destroying the terminus of one of Toronto's great streets with something that looks like a leggo version of a giant 905-McMansion. It overwhelms the streetscape and is completely out of character with the area. How did it ever get approved?

The city pretty much only (attempts to) regulates proportions; the desire to quickly increase the tax-base trumps all. Design descisions are left with the developers, for whom profit trumps all. It's a free market; if you think a building is ugly and offensive, don't buy into it. Unfortunately, we have very low standards in Toronto. This building is the manifestation of money without taste... there is so much of it in Toronto.
