Team Chile's U-20 Brawl

This excerpt from the Toronto Star made me laugh: The headline on the front page of La Cuarta, a tabloid, read "they looked for glory and found hell."

They looked for Glory and found Hell?! Talk about f**ken over-dramatic.

Another excerpt, which sets the stage for the Sunday game: Team doctor Luis Salazar told Chile's Radio Cooperativa that injuries sustained in the clash could prevent some players from playing in tomorrow's third-place game against Austria.

See, if they lose the match tomorrow it will be blamed on the physical "torture" they sustained at the hands of the "Brutal" Toronto police. But if they Win the match... it will become a sensational story of great heroism, with the physically debilitated players of Chile overcoming all the odds to win this game for their country.

*yawwwn*

It doesn't to me. The police don't "throw acid" at anyone, they direct pepper spray and that's it. This asshole is full of shit, as he probably *required* ten officers to restrain him (and how can he tell if it was ten if he supposedly had acid thrown in his face?). Anyone who believes that story is a complete and utter moron.
Hey, he wouldn't mind if somebody threw some acid in his face, if you get my drift

After seeing what the Chileans did on the field it's difficult to give them the benefit of the doubt with respect to what happened later.

why do they make a big deal out of 1 soccer brawl? how much hockey violence have we seen in this country?
When was the last time an entire hockey team got into a brawl with police? It's never happened. Hockey's a violent sport but there's a code among players, who are often friends off the ice. They don't attack refs, fans, or police (with the exception of the odd incident that gets huge media coverage), and even hockey fights are an accepted way to release emotion with no hard feelings after. Even the fan riots that happen once in a while are tame by international soccer standards.

that's the problem. the violence is becoming to accepted and all part of the game. it's just a game.

^It's always been part of the game. Unlike the so called "beautiful game", that's where it stays.

And the Todd Bertuzzi incident you posted a link to wasn't a fight, and had nothing to do with fighting.

What a shock. A Chilean player now admits that he threw a punch at a female officer, before being pepper sprayed.

Wonder what other truths will now come out.

Typical.

I also got a hoot out of that quote about 10 police officers crowding around this kid to similtaneously punch him in the face. This would require either a very expansive face, or tiny police fists, or both.
