Fergus is another of Ontario's stone towns. It is located twenty minutes north of Guelph along the Grand River. The town was
founded in the 1830's by Scottish settlers who constructed many fine 19th century stone buildings. Today the town is known
for the large Highland Games Festival held each summer.

Incidentally, what's the present situation w/this joint?

It was my favourite place in Fergus for ages; then last year, I noticed it was for sale...

Great shots of Fergus.

On the north end of town, across from the GSW plant there's an amazing short cul-de-sac where every house on the street is built of stone. There's a plaque explaining the history of the street IIRC.

I'm not positive about where it is and what it's called, but looking at Google Maps it looks like it might be Brock St.

I wish I had seen that. I probably missed some other neat stuff too.

adma, I don't know what's going on with that swimming pool building but it's a shame if it's not a public swimming pool anymore.

Next time you head out to do a profile of a town, you should post here first. There's several people on this forum who are knowledgeable about small-town Ontario and can offer pro-tips. ;)

May I suggest Woodstock? (Or ave you already done it?)

Can't remember if it's Brock, but the whole zone around GSW (formerly Beatty Stove) factory is industrial archaeology par excellence. And it's more west-end than north-end, i.e. visible at the edge of town, north of the main drag t/w Elora...

I did Woodstock already, some really fine buildings there. I didn't photograph much of the great housing stock while I was there though (forgot to charge my camera for that trip:()

Another fine tour. Thanks.

All those times I've been to Guelph, and never continued on to Fergus. That will have to change in May.

Interesting! Never been there. It's rare to see an Ontario town with so little red brick!
