MISSISSAUGA, ON, Dec. 6, 2013 /CNW/ - Square One Shopping Centre announces the opening of a 113,000-square-foot flagship La Maison Simons store in spring 2016 - the first location of the Quebec fashion specialty retailer to open in Ontario. The two-level Simons store represents a $52 million investment and will occupy a large portion of the existing Sears store as part of Square One's ongoing development projects. Simons marks another first-to-market premium brand acquisition for Square One and will enhance the first-class shopping experience west of Toronto.

"We have long admired Simons as a premium retailer of outstanding fashions and home décor. Oxford Properties believes in the strength of the Simons brand and our partnership will build on the Square One success story," says Michael Kitt, EVP Canada, Oxford Properties Group. "Square One's leasing team has been working diligently to attract premium retailers, such as Simons, and adding them to our roster shows that an exceptional retail experience starts here at Square One."

"Simons is excited to bring our passion for fashion, art and architecture to Square One. We share a similar vision and are constantly striving for excellence by providing a unique and memorable shopping experience that exceeds our customers' expectations," says Peter Simons, President and General Manager of La Maison Simons.

Simons is the newest retailer added to Square One's $380 million renovation and expansion project. Phase One, an $84 million overhaul of the interior, was completed in November 2013, and construction on Phase Two began in September 2013. Simons joins other flagship stores including a 120,000-square-foot Holt Renfrew that is also set to open at Square One in spring 2016.

"The power of Square One to attract first-class retailers and provide exceptional guest service is proven in our productivity results, which have surpassed $800 per square-foot and exceeds the Canadian average by 31 per cent," adds Kevin Gray, General Manager, Square One. "We're thrilled to have Simons on board and join our other impressive retailers that opened this year, including Lacoste, Top Shop Top Man, Loft, Ann Taylor and White House Black Market." Microsoft's fourth Canadian store will open at Square One in early 2014, which will be another first for the shopping centre.

Interesting how mall architecture has ever-so-slowly become slightly more engaged with the street. Still not quite there though.

Agreed. Pedestrians on the abutting sidewalks don't appear for the most part to be able to see in the store. The design kind of assumes that one approaches from a distance (i.e. a large parking lot).

There appears to be an elevational issue, as the entrance is to the left (vertical elements mark it)
- and inside you can see a half escalator leading up to the first of 2 sales floors.
They have brought some interest to teh sidealk with the two big [pink] display windows.

Microsoft opens on Saturday, February 8, 2014, according to Square One's Facebook and Twitter.

Ross Mayer, originally from Sherway Gardens, has opened a temporary location in the former Lenscrafters/temporary Melanie Lynne space.

I am really, really wanting to know the sales/sq. ft of MS stores.

AoD

Although not as high as Apple's I'm sure, it's presumable they must be quite high as the most productive malls are not hesitant to sign them as tenants. Yorkdale was first and Square One (who's productivity is just over $800 psf) second; there's bound to be more. In the U.S., Microsoft has followed a similar pattern with other upscale or mid-scale shopping centres, almost always in the vicinity of Apple's location. In the case of the Florida Mall in Orlando (the largest mall in the state) they're across the hall from one another.

As the second phase gets closer to being done each day, it'd be nice to have an official list of stores that'll open in the mall in that section/be relocated. We definitely know of Forever 21 but that's really it. Oxford definitely has a list of the tenants and knows which one'll go where, so it wouldn't hurt to see a list of strong tenants. Also impatient to see what stores will open up on the Holt Renfrew side when the time comes. Hoping for some overseas brands. Square One tragically lacks flagship stores, and with the new renovations it'd be great for a few foreign stores to open their first store in the mall

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the artist renditions show Old Navy and Moxies in the new phase? That's a must since Holt Renfew will occupy their current locations. Also, isn't Shoppers moving back into the area after the phase is completed?

These are the stores that appeared in the renders, they may not be confirmed yet:

Moxies
Old Navy
Forever 21
Kids Foot Locker
West 49
Aldo Accessories
Ben Moss
Shoppers Drug Mart
Purdy's
Richtree Market

West 49 and Aldo Accessories would make sense because the corridor for the new expansion ends near the Hudson's Bay court.

They are relocating in Sept to the lower or upper level of the expansion. Shoppers was in the lower level before the expansion.

Only Forever 21, Kids Foot Locker are new to the mall.

As who is coming to Phase II expansion in 2016 other than Holt is unknown at this time public.
