So I was on the front porch feeding my little one her lunch today when I heard quite the loud roar. I scrambled off the porch to see a NASA DC8-72 scream down Glen Erin drive at 1625ft altitude and about 220 knots. It was a sight to see since I haven't seen a flying DC8 in years and certainly not one in my neighbourhood at 1600 feet off the deck!. My only regret was that I didn't know it was coming and didn't have my Nikon DSLR handy.
I tracked it on FlightRadar24 for the next couple of hours as it zig zagged across Lake Ontario and the GTA. I thought maybe, just maybe, it might fly over again.
I watched the real time tracking on FlightRadar24 and saw it descend over the Lake south of Oakville to 850 feet. It was repeating the track it flew about two and half hours earlier. This time, I had the Nikon in hand as it made it's second pass.
Apparently it is doing air quality studies and was in Chicago yesterday. Quite the pattern it flew over the GTA:
