Scarborough Photographs: Then and Now

Brewster: I would not mind finding out what the original price of these 50s era homes were - compared
to what the value of them now would be...

LI MIKE

Many Scarborough homes (built circa 1958) were in the $15,000 range and today sell for $400,000 (or more).

Looking at the pictures of a growing young Scarborough, then seeing the now side and living here since 1983 I cannot help thinking how much it has stagnated in the past few years...well, really since amalgamation. For 4 years Scarborough transit has been on the discussion table...arguments arguments arguments with no progress. I am disillusioned. And its not just a shot at Ford or the Miller admins....every election seems to be about downtown issues...unless we are arguing transit where no clear decision is made.

Does anyone have any old photographs they would like to share of the ski hill located in the Rouge Valley south of the Zoo? It was at the end of Sheppard, or old Lansing cutoff, now called Twin River.
It was called Caper valley and was in operation in the early to mid seventies. I heard a story that it’s name “Caper” came from the factory about a kilometer away on the north side of Sheppard Ave. called Repac. Caper is Repac spelled backwards.

Here is a recent picture (Sept 2014), the second pic is of a concrete foundation (at the top of the hill) I assume to hold one of the ski lift poles. The third picture is of the steel cable (still in the bush) which was used for the ski lift.
