Russia's Artic Claims

Russia can't do sh*t with these arctic claims, as long as Canada and the U.S. are at it's heels. They couldn't do sh*t during the cold war, and they certainly can't do much now either. Putin and his neo-facist governing can keep spewing out his old-style theatrical propaganda when it comes to the arctic, but it's not going to get him anywhere.

maybe the states told russia to do this so that canada would ask the states for backup help in the event anything big happen, and by requesting this help, naturally, we'd have to share with the U.S.

Yeah Russia can take all the land they want because Canada can't do much against them.

Uh, there's no land involved. It's the ocean seabed they're after.

Geopolitics is a hardball game, something we as cosy neighours of the US have lost site of. The fact is that Russia's response will ultimately be "so what are you going to do about it? No offense but we're taking oil out of this undersea shelf, and we'll just have to agree to disagree..."

We complain about our US neighbours, well we have other neighours to worry about.

How will Russia defend this claim? If it is not recognized internationally, they can bawl about ownership all they want to; it won't help.

Unfortunately, in the real world, being "internationally recognised" or not doesn't seem to help much.

They've made a claim, and that's all. Enforcing it's whole different ball of wax - particularly in the high Arctic.

technically, the north pole does belong to russia because they will claim that they've been there all along. lets not forget that big fat commie bastard santa claus with his red uniform & rudolph the "red" nose reindeer giving away toys for free and using elve labor. because of him, the north has essentially been grandfathered into russia. it's the "santa clause"

^Then the pole belongs to Turkey* because the origins of Sanata Claus go back to St. Nicholas of Myra.

*Of course it was part of Byzantine Anatolie back then, located where Turkey is today.
