I recently discovered the Province's Environmental Registry and saw on it that the Royal York Hotel (East Wing) at 100 Front St west recently applied for a Certificate of Property Use. I find this rather odd unless they are proposing to change the east wing of the Royal York from a hotel to condominiums. Others may understand better but ..

The documents from Pinchin suggest a work area in the sub-basement level of the hotel:

Yes, I saw that but was not sure if "hotel use" is seen as 'residential" or "residential" means apartments etc. If they needed a permit for a hotel I find it odd they had not already got one!

Since the work in question is apparently in the sub-basement..............that had me wondering how the space is used today...........so I turned to assorted infiltration sites............now the info is out of date of course, and doesn't specify what is under which wing.............but I found this photo amusing of an office in the sub-basement:

Yes, from the documents the environmental 'hazard' is in the basement but I do not think that means that any change of use is restricted to the basement. "Stuff" can presumably migrate to the upper (residential) floors. No sign of any actual City Building Permit.
