Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

New southbound Trafalgar on ramp to the 401 is now open as an S lane. Used it today for the first time.

Grading on the north side of the new Trafalgar bridge underway for the new lanes.

New off ramp to Trafalgar westbound ready, but missing temporary traffic lights and stripping.
Apologies, what is an "S" lane?

Not sure if anyone mentioned but I noticed today that the HOV lanes going eastbound appear to have opened. Westbound the signs are still covered up however. I was in the collectors though so I didn't get a good look

What is the recommended speed in a HOV lane? Do you treat it like a fast lane?

Max speed limit or better, but sadly, Sunday driver are there a lot of times. Some times have to drive around them at on/off location and have seen drivers cross the double line to get around the fools.

While the HOV lane is the leftmost lane, it is not a passing lane. It may not move the fastest but it could move more consistently and get backed up less often so your travel time may be faster on it.

In my experience in free flowing traffic, HOV lane drivers are usually going 110-115 while the top lane is going 120-130. In other words, you can't treat the HOV like the top lane because the majority of drivers using it don't treat it that way.

Not sure if this has been studied, but I get the sense that only a tiny proportion of the time is there any travel time benefit of HOV lanes.

Which makes one wonder why people drive in the HOV lane, if the regular lanes are moving as fast as they want to go. I swear, people use them for entertainment value.
