Restaurant Comings & Goings

Mexican restaurant, Fonda Balam, at 802 Dundas St W are planning to close

As one closes, another opens.
There should be a new Mexican restaurant on College where Sashimi Island sushi used to be. (635 College street)
Also, for a little while now, there has been a brand new Mexican restaurant on Bloor, near Spadina, where another Sushi (ayce) restaurant used to be. (@ 394 Bloor street west)
I have never been to the one on Dundas that is closing, but I do know this, the Mexican restaurant on Bloor near Spadina (I forget the name) has an AMAZING Mexican soup, and it is very filling!
(Their tacos could be better though...)

If anyone remembers the Middle Eastern restaurant Plancha, that was formerly at Adelaide & Victoria, they've just re-opened in Table Food Hall at CIBC Square. Salad Days will be opening another location in the food hall soon as well.

One of the owners of a stand there told me that when phase 2 is done, there'll be another food court on the other side of the rail deck park which will have cheaper chain-type options. Because while there's good stuff at Table, it's pretty $$$.

tsk tsk another food hall! Toronto need to stop with it's "food hall" concept and stop charging almost restaurant prices for food with "food court" standards.

I was in Vegas recently, the casinos can't rip out the buffets fast enough for food halls. They figured out why charge someone 30 to 40 plus dollars for all you can eat slop, when you can charge them 30 plus dollars for tiny portion of slop in a "fancy" food hall setting. I was looking at the prices... 20 bucks average for a meal, plus $10 for an alcoholic drink , plus another 10 plus dollars for side dish to help fill you up = absurdly expensive!

Long gone are the days of the 99 cent buffet.
