Hi,
I just spent a year in Toronto and am desperate to go back.
I have a degree in biology and would like to do a postgraduate course in one of Toronto's universities.
However I have looked at the admissions requirements and many of them state that my degree grade must be the equivalent of a mid-B. My grade falls a couple of percent short of this mark!
How strict are Toronto universities with their admission requirements?
I am especially worried because the courses I am looking at require me to find a supervisor to take me on, and also I will need funding. Should I try applying anyway or just leave it? Does anyone know any professors/lecturers I could talk to, maybe in U of T or York?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks

I think it would be pretty hard with those marks, but it's not completely lost. Do you have much research experience? Sometimes a good record of experience could save those cases on the borderline. If not, then perhaps a good way to start would be to ask to volunteer/tech in labs to gain more experience.

As for funding, for grad studies in life sciences they would generally provide you with funding (of course it's school / program dependent). Are you Canadian or international? If Canadian you can try applying for NSERC, but again it might be a bit hard with your marks unless you have had good experience. Some countries also have scholarships for their students to go overseas for grad studies, so you can look into that if you're international.

If you already have a good idea of what you want to do, you should contact individual faculty directly. Otherwise, you can consider contacting the graduate coordinator of the programs you're interested in.
