Re: TTC DAY TRIPPER
It's ironic that on the same day that bizorky wrote:
It's okay Muse, we understand now.
We won't be mugging you on the subway now.
that I went into Toronto via the TTC for the first time in a couple of years. Just by chance I found out that the Standing Committee at Queen's Park was deliberating over Bill 130 --a Provincial bill that takes existing evil empires and making them eviller by handing them more power and zip in the way of accountability.
I found out that the last day the public could comment on Bill 130 was November 29th at 5:00pm and I found out on --you guessed it --November 29th!
So I decided to lay down a one-person protest against Bill 130 on the Queen's Park lawn.
That "forced" me to go into Toronto and FAST! GO and then the TTC!
Soon as I got onto the GO TRAIN at Clarkson, I went to the very top of the car. LOTS of space. LOTS of reading for me as well what with the graffiti all the way along the track route.
We have decent graffiti folk on Toronto (couldn't find a single case of profanity --and I really kept my eyes open)
Torontonians gave me LOTS of space on the subway too. TTC personnel were friendly and really helpful to The Clueless (me and the person ahead of me buying tokens).
There were LOTS of TTC personnel about by the way --all looking like they were doing what they were supposed to.
The thing about tripping over to a foreign land like I did yesterday, is --Foreign-Spelling is sometimes funny. I was puzzled by Osgoode, not just because of the "e" but also that there was NO ONE there! Not a soul!
Verrrrrrrrry suspicious.
I easily made it to Queen's Park and right on time (3:30) when the Standing Committee was deliberating on Bill 130.
This nice security officer asked what I was doing. I said protesting. I said that I'd called ahead. Told him I'd be back again Wednesday to protest anew. That's when he gave me a form to fill out and FAX to --actually I forget why --but I will.
He said I wasn't dressed right and should've worn a winter coat. I thanked him and told him I had 80-kabillion shirts/sweater underneath my jacket.
I feel badly though. The security officer then stayed outside the entire time and I hope that wasn't because a "protestor" was there. (I didn't notice one standing in the elements when I arrived... and he didn't look all that prepared for an evening outside.)
I attracted the attention of just one person who asked me why I used flags to communicate. I told him that when dealing with government, normal phone calls, writing and even photographs don't work.
I said if the government was going to ignore my imput, I might as well get some exercise out of the deal by flapping flags about.
Well. At least I made one person smile.
I protested from three-thirty to just past six. I have tenacity and there's lots to Bill 130 and demands dumping on. Once the sun went down it got even colder and windier. But there was one Plus.
Toronto is BEAUTIFUL in the night.
By the time I packed up to leave, I couldn't feel the toes on my right foot. It made me think of all the poor souls forced to spend the night on the streets --and it wasn't even that cold yet for Canada.
Social Injustice. Evil Empires... Hypocrisy. Depressing.
Time to leave. My last signal was:
T.H.A.N.K. Y.O.U. M.R. M.A.R.I.N.
Mr. Andre Marin is the Ontario Ombudsmen who alerted Ontario citizens to the flaws and frauds of Bill 130. You know, the kind of flaws and frauds that perpetuate social injustice, evil empire and hypocrisy.
So.
I loved the fact that the subway was right at Queen's Park. Talk about convenient. I easily retraced my steps, found Union Station and the GO TRAIN I needed.
One huge puzzle though.
Was the CN Tower in its usual place yesterday or did someone move it? I wanted to get a pic of it from the GO TRAIN and couldn't find it.
Last. TORONTO IS --YUP-- THE GOOD!
Signed,
The Mississauga Muse
P.S. I'm relieved that The Mississauga Muse did NOT meet up with Zanta!
