You learn something new every day.
Some people use the word electro for the genre electronic. It's kind of incorrect, because electro is a subgenre of electronic music, but again not something everyone knows

"Electro", like "techno", was a common term bandied about back when this seemed like the next rock'n'roll, or something. Back when people even *cared* about there being a next rock'n'roll...

Unfortunately, both those terms are still bandied about without a care.
Most people that use the word 'techno' to describe whatever electronic music they're hearing don't even know what actual techno sounds like.
